YOU KNOW YOU HAVE CHRONIC ILLNESS WHEN...

I didn't expect to be posting again so soon, however I found something that I think may amuse those of you with chronic illness/chronic pain etc.

I did not have my sad green eyes open even three minutes this morning when that nasty silver jagged ball began spinning through my field of vision. For those of you that don't know much about migraines, what I experienced is called an aura. I have not had a migraine in a year, actually almost a year to the day. I used to get them frequently but after an entire year passed, I had thought they were gone for good...you know what thought did??? Silly naive fool...

Now then, back to the reason for this post: I decided to surf the net, looking for things to distract myself from the vise so tightly squeezing my brain and came upon invisibleillneesweek.com. The article entitled YOU KNOW YOU HAVE CHRONIC ILLNESS WHEN.... actually had me laughing out loud despite the pain in my head. I thought perhaps my fellow sufferers could also enjoy a good laugh.

Take care everyone-hope it makes you giggle,
J

Hi Jeanette-- Laughter, yes, how would we get through with out it? W

Sorry about your migraine and hope it has left you alone by now. I can so relate to the thinking that a condition is gone for good--and then being oh so surprised when it returns. I do it often myself--good ole "denial" so nice when in it and tough when reality forces us out...

Thanks so much Kerry for taking the time to comment. I also really appreciate your kind concern! Yes, we certainly do need laughter if we are to remotely cope with chronic illness. If we didn't laugh, I think we would go crazy....:>)

Sorry about your migraine. As someone who just battled a migraine this week, I know the hell you are experiencing right now and hope it gets better. ((hugs)). I had 14 months of migraine free bliss the first time I was put on Topamax, and stupid me decided to switch to a cheaper med (the cognitive s/e also weighed in to the decision). Then the migraines became unbearable, so 7 months later, and 4 different prescription changes later, I begged to be put back on the Topamax. It's not working as well as it did the first time - and I kicked myself every time I get a migraine for ever getting off in the first place - but, for the most part, it does it's job. I was having them 90% of the week. Was numb all the time, my head ached, my life just sucked. With the right med, you can have quality of life. I believe my diet helps, too.

Hello again Endochick,

Thanks very much for your comment. I really appreciate it and even more than that-I am so glad to know that someone knows EXACTLY what I am saying when I've had a bad migraine. (not that I would wish it on anyone)

They are absolutely horrid aren't they. How foolish of me to think they were gone-it wiped me out the ENTIRE WEEK. I was in bed, pretty much useless...

What a shame that you can't find the same relief as when you first started Topamax. I hope & pray for you that they are VERY infrequent.

I truly am blown away at how sick you become with a migraine...I had no clue, now I certainly do...

Thanks again & I wish for you pain free days void of stinking migraines.

Take care,
Jeannette

I'd say you know you have a chronic illness when you have abbreviations and shorthand for things. Like us thyroid patients call endocrinologists "endos" or being hypothyroid is just "hypo" and Hashimoto's is "Hashi's" and such.

My lovely autoimmune friend:

Thank you so much for the comment-I really appreciate you stopping by. With the numerous health issues you suffer with, I know you clearly understand what I am saying. Yes, we do need humor & laughter to survive it all though don't we?

Take care,
Jeannette

P.S. Thank you, I am finally starting to feel human again after that nasty migraine.

Hi there Mary,

I can't tell you just how much it means to me that you took the time to comment. I know you are a busy lady with all of your advocacy & it means so much that you took the time.

I really have learned so much from you. In the beginning I was scared to death but your thyroid information always answered my questions & calmed my fears. You had such an impact that I could never explain it in words! Thanks ever so much!

You are absolutely right on with the use of abbreviations and shorthand...I use them all the time.

As much as we wish that we didn't have to deal with such health issues, I am so grateful that there are so many in the "same boat" that truly understand...

Take care & thanks again,
Jeannette :>)

I saw yer tweet asking for intruders. Done.

Here I am, lucky enough to have faced a deadly thing that they were able to get rid of in 6 months, so I got a fresh start on life, after I thought I'd be dead. Now I have clear sailing ahead of me. And like so many "never-been-sicks" there's a part of me that wants to hide and not think about you chronic pain in the butts. :)

But I won't hide. Hi! How ya doin' in there? Sucks, eh? Ow ow ow? Crap. Well, I remember when my thighbone was beginning to break from the cancer, and I remember when my surgical incisions hurt, so I can TRY to imagine things always hurting...

Well what the hell, you might as well have a sense of humor, huh?

Welcome Dave,

Thank you so much for stopping by & taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it!

That is certainly wonderful news that you have left cancer behind in the dust and have a new life. Good for you! I know where you're coming from as I had the big "C" twice...(I guess once wasn't enough)

Thank you for trying to imagine chronic pain 24/7, although you definitely do not want it...it's horrible. I wouldn't wish it upon anyone.

You most certainly have an intact sense of humor which I believe is essential for recovery from just about anything. Geez, if we didn't laugh sometimes we would go crazy...

Thanks again for stopping by & feel free to come on by anytime.

Take care,
Jeannette :>)

Iv been meaning to leave a comment and FINALLY got around to it.

Laughter is key, My whole family jokes that " The only illness that runs in the family is 'mental illness' " And we say that with tongue in cheek.

Im always intrigued to find out how others discover laughter. Because laughter is a great source of happiness.

Your blog is inspiring and I look forward to reading more of it.

Especially as I appear to begin my own journey with chronic pain.. But I find out Wednesday.. Its in Gods hands. I know everything will turn out OKAY.
